Once Upon a Time in November follows a Warsaw mother (Agata Kulesza) and her son (Grzegorz Pałkowski), who are evicted from their apartment. Everything takes place in November 2013, when the city was rocked by huge demonstrations, including one by young nationalists. The film will also feature archive footage of street fights shot by journalist Tomas Rafa.
"I want the screen to show us Warsaw without the film make-up, the way it really is. The street scenes were shot in an authentic crowd. I wanted images full of brutal realism", Jakimowski told FNE. He is an acknowledged Polish director, better known to the international audience for his award winning dramas Tricks, Squint Your Eyes and Imagine, all of them produced by Zjednoczenie Artystów i Rzemieślników.
The film was produced by Andrzej Jakimowski through Zjednoczenie Artystów i Rzemieślników in coproduction with Canal+, Gigant Films, ITI Neovision, D35, Adam Production Adam Bajerski, Blue Dream Film Cezary Grzesiuk, with a budget of 916,686 EUR / 3.9 m PLN, with 46,591 EUR / 1.9 m PLN of production financing from the Polish Film Institute.
The film was released in Poland on 3 November 2017 distributed by Kino Świat.
