FESTIVALS: Warsaw Loses Wisdom Tooth

By

WARSAW: The Warsaw Film Festival has announced that the Chinese film Wisdom Tooth directed by Ming Liang has been withdrawn from the festival’s International Competition. The screening would have been the world premiere of the film.

The film’s producer Sun Yang informed the festival that the film had not received the required approval from the Chinese government and could not be shown at the festival. In a statement, the festival said, “[…] the producer has asked to remove the film from the competition and from the schedule, which we regrettably do.”

The festival traditionally has a strong representation of Asian films in its international competition. This year’s competition will include films from Japan, Iran and Kazakhstan.

The Warsaw Film Festival opens on 11 October and runs through 20 October 2019. Wisdom Tooth was scheduled to have its first screening on the opening night of the festival.
