Poland picks up four television awards

    Poland's TVP won awards for all four films it submitted in the prestigious television program competition New York Festivals 2008. TVP picked up two golden medals and two bronze medals in the competition which featured films from 25 countries. The awards were announced Feb. 1.

    Stefan Norblin by Robert Ćwikliński, produced by TV Polonia about the illustrator, graphic artist, portrait painter and fashion designer, won a golden medal in the "biographies and profiles" category.

    Wojciech Cejrowski -- Barefoot Around the World byAndrzej Horubał, about the adventurer's many trips, picked up a golden medal in the "travels and tourism" category for producer TVP2.

    In the category "history and society," Zamojskie Rising by Miroslaw Gronowski, made by TVP Lublin, won a bronze medal. The four-part series tells a shocking story of previously unknown historical details of the uprising.

    Marek Tomasz Pawłowski's The Runaway, a TVP Documentary Section production, portrays the extraordinary character of Kazimierz Piechowski, one of the first runaways from Auschwitz in 1942. The film presented for the first time photos from private archives of SS officers serving in the camp. It also won a bronze medal in the "history and society" category.

    Among TVP's competitors in the finals were productions by ABC News, Discovery Channel, CTV, BBC, CBC, ORF, ZDF, CBS, HBO and NHK.
