Shooting began Wednesday on a new film by renowned Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi called A Heart in Your Hand. It's the first Polish-Ukrainian co-production since the two countries signed a memorandum on mutual cooperation between their film industries last month.

The cast of the dark comedy is mostly Polish, though the lead is Ukrainian Bohdan Supka who plays a man with heart trouble desperately trying arrange a transplant.

"The shoot started today and the main locations are Wilanów (in Warsaw) and an airport and homeless shelter in Kiev," assistant director Magdalena Szwarcbart told FNE. The shoot in Poland will end on April 9 and the work in Ukraine will be completed April 14.

"The production should be finalized by this summer," she said.

The Polish producer is Wytwórnia Filmów Dokumentalnych i Fabularnych (www.wfdif.com.pl) and the co-producer is Zanussi's TOR Film Studio (www.tor.com.pl). Ukraine's co-producer is the Sota Cinema Group.

A Heart in Your Hand is also being cofinanced by the Polish Film Institute (www.psif.pl), which signed the cooperation agreement with Ukraine. Agnieszka Będkowska from WFDiF told FNE that the movie's total budget has not yet been finalised.
