By FNE Staff

Michał Rogalski is the winner of the Polish edition of the International Hartley-Merrill Script Competition, run by the Andrzej Wajda film school. His script for Summer Solstice was selected out of 130 scripts submitted to the jury, according to Polish Radio's external service.

Set in a small provincial town during the Nazi occupation of Poland, it is a story of a Pole and a German soldier whose plights get intertwined in both a comic and tragic way. Rogalski told the Polish Press Agency that his intention was to show the impact of war on personal relationships.

The International Hartley-Merrill Script Competition was established in 1989, and the Polish edition was launched two years later.
