EU parliament votes for resolution to exclude culture from US EU Trade Talks but the battle continues
CANNES: The European Parliament has voted in favour of a resolution calling for the exclusion of cultural and audiovisual services from the negotiating mandate for a free trade agreement between the US and the EU following strong protests in Cannes and across Europe from the audiovisual sector. The resolution was carried by a large majority.

CANNES: The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Croatia Andrea Zlatar Violić, and Minister of Culture of the French Republic Aurélie Filippetti signed the Coproduction Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Government of the French Republic during Cannes.

ZAGREB: Finnish writer/director Arto Halonen (Princess, Pavlov’s Dogs) is in postproduction with the first Finnish-Croatian coproduction, a comedy about the doping-phenomenon notable for the casting of Canadian Olympic athlete Ben Johnson, who relinquished his gold medal when he tested positive for doping, in a minor role.
WARSAW: Polish producer Opus Film has joined the international coproduction of the drama The Cut by German director Fatih Akin. Opus Film was also a coproducer on the sci-fi film The Congress directed by Ari Folman which premiered at the 66th Cannes IFF.

CANNES: The prestigious Krzysztof Kieslowski ScripTeast Award for the Best Eastern and Central European Script was awarded to Polish scriptwriting duo Bartosz Konopka and Przemyslaw Nowakowski for their screenplay The Mute at a gala ceremony in Cannes last night.

European Film under threat in US EU Free Trade Talks warn film professionals
CANNES: Thousands of audiovisual industry professionals have called on the European Commission to take film funding off the table in EU US trade negotiation talks warning the measures threaten the survival of the industry.

Cristian Hordila, Managing Director of Romanian Film Promotion, has joined the incoming Board of Directors of European Film Promotion.
BUDAPEST: Two films received development support in the latest round of grants from the Hungarian National Film Fund, in addition to four films which received production support and six films receiving script development funding in an earlier round.
The former Kentauros Studios, located 20 km from central Bucharest, will be relaunched as Solar Studios in a joint venture between Solar Entertainment Group and Romanian real estate developer Dragos Savulescu, who recently acquired the property.
