Gdynia Polish Film Festival Competition spotlight: Made In Poland
19 May 2010 By Katarzyna Grynienko

Przemysław Wojcieszek creates a moving image of Poland in the adaptation of his highly successful play Made in Poland.

ImageIn the film, 16-year old Boguś, a former altar boy, acts out on his disappointment with God. He tattoos obscenities on his forehead, arms himself with a metal rod and sets out to start a revolution on his block and look for new spiritual guidance. The story was initially a film project, but Wojcieszek decided not wait for funding and first created a theater play in 2004, which turned out to be a spectacular success. The play was strongly praised by critics and is considered one of the most significant plays in Poland in the last decade.

Wojcieszek is a film and theater director as well as a producer and screenwriter, and a significant filmmakers of Polish independent cinema, focusing on difficult, problematic social topics.Wojcieszek made his cinema debut in 1999 with the well received drama Kill Them All, followed by Louder Then Bombs (2001), Down The Colorful Hill (2004) and The Perfect Afternoon (2005) all praised both locally and internationally, naming him one of the most interesting and potent filmmakers of the young generation.

ImageThe movie was shot in July and October 2008 on location in Wrocław. Made In Poland was produced by Gruppa Rafał Widajewicz ( www.gruppa.pl) in co-production with Canal + (www.canalplus.pl). The budget was 1.5 million PLN ( EUR 370,000) with 1 million PLN in financing from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl) and 200,000 PLN from Canal +.
Made In Poland will have it's official premiere during the Gdynia Polish Film Festival and will go into theatrical distribution by the end of 2010.
