In Darkness Receives Oscar Nomination

ImageWARSAW: Agnieszka Holland's WWII Holocaust film In Darkness has been nominated for Best Foreign Language Oscar.

The film, based on a true story, stars Robert Wieckiewicz as a small-time crook who becomes an unlikely hero and savior for a group of Jews who are hiding in the sewers of Lvov.

In Darkness has already received a number of nominations and awards, including the prize for best cinematography for Jolanta Dylewska at PlusCamerimage festival (www.pluscamerimage.pl).

Holland previously received an Academy Award nomination in the Best Adapted Screenplay category for her film Europa, Europa in 1992. Her feature Bittere Ernte (Angry Harvest) received an Academy Award nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category in 1986, representing West Germany.

In Darkness was produced by Studio Filmowe Zebra (www.zebrafilm.pl), and co-produced by Hidden Films Inc. (Canada) and Schmidtz Katze Filmkollektiv GmbH (Germany). The film received financial support from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl) and the Łódź Film Fund (www.lodzfilmcommission.pl).
