Poland sends Scratch to Venice
28 August 2008 By Katarzyna Grynienko
Scratch directed by Michał Rosa will have its world premiere in the Venice Days section of the Venice film festival. The movie was produced by FILMCONTRACT LTD.(www.filmcontract.pl) in co-operation with the Polish public broadcaster PTV-Film Agency (www.tvp.pl) and The Documentary and Feature Films Studio (WFDiF, www.wfdif.com.pl). Distribution is managed by the Foundation of Cinema Promotion Polish Film, established by the Polish Filmmakers Association (SFP) along with independent Polish producers Akson Studio, Filmcontract, Grupa Filmowa, Opus-Film and Studio A in order to improve the promotion and distrubution of new Polish movies.

The distributor (www.filmpolski.com) describes the film as a family psycho-drama evolving around the life of a middle-aged marriage. A "scratch" appears on their relationship once the wife receives anonymous information that her husband may have been a denunciator during the communist regime.

Director/author Michał Rosa won the Directing Debut prize for his first film Hot Thursday at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia in 1993. Subsequent films Paint (1997), Silence (2001), and What the Sun Saw (2006) won several awards at festivals in Gdynia. Lagow, Karlovy Vary, Cottobus, and New York.Paint was awarded with the Polish Film Academy's Eagle Award for the Best Direction in 1999.

SFP (www.bazafilmowa.pl) reports that movie's total budget is PLN4 million  (1.2 million Euros) with the 540,000 Euros from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl). Scratch will premiere in Poland on September 19.
