WARSAW: The discussion on the funding of public broadcasting in Poland has resulted in two draft amendments to the law on TV and radio licenses.

According to Polish public radio, the first proposal will be completed withing weeks. It will state that every household which receives electricity is assumed to have a computer or radio, and is required to pay the public TV and radio fee. Also under consideration is whether to add mobile phones and other devices such as iPads to the list of fee-requiring items.

There has been a long-running debate on whether to collect subscription fees at all. A bill was passed in 2009 abolishing the license fees, but was later overruled in a state judicial decision.
