FNE at When East Meets West/Trieste FF: WEMW Announces Winners

    TRIESTE: Wojciech Staron's Brothers won the HBO Europe Award for the best project in Last Stop Trieste, a new section of When East Meets West pitching market running from 18 to 20 January alongside Trieste Film Festival.

    A total of 22 projects from 29 countries were pitched, 12 of them fiction feature films and 10 documentaries. Two new initiatives dedicated to films in the postproduction stage were launched at the 5th edition of WEMW, Last Stop Trieste (LST), a work-in-progress section for creative documentaries organized in collaboration with Trieste Film Festival, and First Cut Lab (FCL), a programme designed for long feature fiction films in the editing phase.

    This year When East Meets West dedicated a special focus to English speaking countries: the UK, Ireland, Canada and the USA. Spain, Portugal and Latin America will be guest regions in 2016.

    WEMW is organized by Friuli Venezia Giulia Audiovisual Fund together with the Trieste Film Festival, in collaboration with EAVE, Maia workshops, Creative Europe Desk Italy MEDIA, Eurimages and with the support of Creative Europe - MEDIA Programme, Direzione Generale per il Cinema – MiBACT, CEI (Central European Initiative), Confartigianato Udine and the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
