FNE at Connecting Cottbus: Zana

By

COTTBUS: Macedonia, Croatia and Bulgaria are lining up to come on board Zana, a feature film from Kosovo directed by Antoneta Kastrati. The project was presented as part of the new MIDPOINT Feature Launch pitches at Connecting Cottbus on 9 – 10 November 2017.

The 450,000 EUR film already has 328,000 EUR in place, with Macedonia’s Dream Factory and Albania’s On Film Production attached, as well as US funding. The producers are still seeking financing for post-production as well as a sales agent.

The drama/mystery tells the story of an Albanian woman, who lives in a village in Kosovo with her husband and mother-in-law. She lost her only child during the war and visits a witchdoctor and a faith healer to help her get pregnant, but is besieged by night terrors. The project was one of several pitching at Cottbus which has a story inspired by personal experiences.

The film, a feature debut, will begin a pre-shoot of winter scenes in January 2018, with principal photography taking place in May. The premiere is planned for 2019. The husband and wife producing/directing team told FNE they will launch an Indiegogo campaign in mid-November.
