Czech Republic with Biggest Growth Rate of SVOD Subscribers in 2015-2016

    STRASBOURG: The Czech Republic is the EU country with the biggest growth rate of SVOD subscribers in 2015-2016 (226%), according to the analysis Trends in the EU SVOD market published by the European Audiovisual Observatory.

    The Czech Republic is followed by Croatia with 197%, Spain with 141% and Bulgaria 137%. Slovakia has a growth rate of 105%, while Romania has 66%, Poland 48% and Slovenia 38%.

    The penetration of SVOD services in 2016 was 11% in Poland, 8% in Slovenia, 5% in Romania, 4% in Slovakia, 2% in the Czech Republic and 1% in Estonia.

    The CEE country with the biggest number of subscribers to VOD in 2016 is Poland with 1.4 m.

    Between 2016 and 2017 pay TV subscribers increased in Slovakia by 7.5%, in Croatia by 4.2%, in Cyprus by 3.3%, in Romania by 2.5%, in Latvia by 2%, and in Poland by 1.3%, and decreased in the Czech Republic by 0.3%, in Lithuania by 0.2% and in Bulgaria by 0.1%.

    SVOD represented 66% of total pay on-demand service revenue in the EU in 2016 and 38.7 million Europeans subscribed to SVOD in 2016 in the EU. Scandinavia shows the greatest SVOD penetration rate.
