FNE at Connecting Cottbus 2018: Pitching Awards Go to Romania and Lithuania

    COTTBUS: The Best Pitch Award of the 20th edition of the East-West coproduction market Connecting Cottbus (8 and 9 November 2018) went to the Romanian project October from director Cristian Pascariu and producer Oana Giurgiu of Libra Film Production. The award, voted on by the market participants, carries a cash prize of 1,500 EUR and accreditation to the Producers Network at the Cannes 2019 film market.

    A new prize, the Avanpost Pitch Packaging Award, went to the Lithuanian project 9th Step from director Irma Puzauskaite and producer Lukas Trimonis of IN SCRIPT. The Romanian postproduction house Avanpost will provide in-kind services, including strategy consulting, storyboarding and production/postproduction services, valued at 15,000 EUR.

    The Romanian project Men of Deeds by director Nicolae Constantin Tanase and producers Anamaria Antoci and Ana-Maria Voicu (Tangaj Production) won the MIDPOINT Consulting Award, a tailor-made consultancy for the film to take place during When East Meets West 2019 in Trieste.

    Men of Deeds along with the Slovak project Victim from director Michal Blasko and producer Jakub Viktorin of nutprodukcia, were the two projects receiving the highest number of one-to-one meeting requests.

    Connecting Cottbus also handed out a Works in Progress award, the D-Facto Motion WIP Award valued at 35,000 EUR in post-production services, to the Turkish film Geranium by Cagil Bocut and produced by Asli Erdem and Caglar Bocut (Kolor Film / Beatrice Films).

    The 20th edition of Connecting Cottbus was the first under new director Marjorie Bendeck. The market received 147 applications coming from 42 countries.
