Organisers of LET’S CEE Film Festival Cancel 2019 Edition

By

VIENNA: The organisers of the LET’S CEE Film Festival have cancelled the 2019 edition. The 7th edition of the festival focusing on films from Central and Eastern Europe was supposed to take place in May 2019.

The founders and directors of the LET'S CEE Film Festival Magdalena Żelasko and Wolfgang P. Schwelle mentioned an insufficient level of support from the City of Vienna and the Federal Chancellery as the reason for the cancellation.

“LET’S CEE is one of the few cultural initiatives addressing the native cultures of Central and Eastern European people living in Vienna. In a time when nationalism is dangerously regaining ground, a project unambiguously dedicated to dialogue is essential and should be strongly supported”, Magdalena Żelasko said in a statement.

In six editions the festival has screened a total of 610 films in over 1,000 screenings, with more than 600 predominantly international festival guests and over 76,000 visitors.

Further information and the official statement can be found on LET’S CEE Film Festival's website.
