BUCHAREST: Romanian producer, screenwriter and director Catalin Mitulescu (The Way I Spent the End of the World, Loverboy) plans to shoot his third feature, El Rumano, in autumn 2013.

Details about the story have not been disclosed at this time, since the first draft is not yet finished, but the script that won a production grant from the National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro) in 2010 dealt with love and loneliness as a 40-something Romanian living in Spain has to face a strange proposition.

The producer Daniel Mitulescu from Strada Film (www.stradafilm.ro) told FNE that discussions with possible co-producers from Sweden, Canada, Spain and France are underway. A final figure on the budget is still undecided, but the film might come in at more than one million Euro. The project was already granted 1,270,000

RON (EUR 300,000) by the Romanian National Centre for Cinema in 2010.

If shooting goes as planned (in Romania and other countries) in autumn 2013, El Rumano could be finished in spring 2014, and ready before the Cannes Film Festival (www.festival-cannes.com ). Cătălin Mitulescu is writing the script alone for the moment, and actors and DOP have not been confirmed. There is no sales agent attached.
