BUCHAREST: Tudor Giurgiu’s political drama Why Me?/De ce eu? will be released in more than 60 Romanian cinemas on 27 February and in Bulgaria at the end of March 2015 after its premiere at Sofia IFF.

Negotiations with other territories are underway. The film will also travel with a caravan to Romanian towns that have no cinema.

Based on true events from 2002, Why Me? follows a courageous prosecutor who refuses to obey the political mafia and commits suicide at the age of 29. The film was selected for Berlinale’s Panorama Special and is sold internationally by the new Greek company Heretic Outreach. Transilvania Film is the Romanian distributor.

WhyMe?/De ce eu? was produced by Libra Film in coproduction with Romania’s Hai-Hui Entertainment, Bulgaria’s Chouchkov Brothers and Hungary’s Cor Leonis Films. It was supported by the Romanian National Film Centre, the Bulgarian National Film Center, Eurimages, MEDIA Programme and SEE Cinema Network. HBO Romania is also involved.
