BUCHAREST: Victoria Baltag’s independent debut feature Herman: the Man behind the Terror/Herman-omul din spatele terorii (www.hermanfilm.com), focusing on the torture "reeducation” used by the communist regime through the Piteşti Experiment, opened a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo on 2 June 2015.

The story, written by Alexandra Axinte, is based on an extended research project which took three years and follows Herman, a promising young man who, under extreme circumstances, changed into Romania's most effective torturer in the infamous Piteşti Experiment.

Shooting is due to start in Iaşi on 19 June 2015 and is expected to wrap on 3 August 2015. Baltag, who is also producing through Victoria Baltag Production, hopes to raise at least 35,000 EUR in order to produce and release the film. She told FNE that she doesn’t have the final budget yet. “We already invested 25,000 EUR in the development stage”, she said.

Marius Donici and Cosmin Dumitrache are the DoPs. The main character is played by Sergiu Moraru. The cast includes actors with little or no experience in cinema but also established actors such as Ion Caramitru and Olimpia Melinte. The theatrical release is not yet settled as the film is expected to have a festival career.
