Aferim! Wins Big at Best Film Fest

    Radu Jude’s Aferim! was awarded Best Romanian Film, Best European Film and has also won Best Director, Best Romanian Actor (Teodor Corban) and Audience Award at the Best Film Fest 2016. The winners were chosen by the vote of film critics and journalists, and were announced during a gala held on 28 January 2016.

    Ana Maria Guran was awarded Best Romanian Actress for The World Is Mine / Lumea e a mea, the debut feature by Nicolae Constantin Tănase (Libra Film, defilm).

    Mad Max: Fury Road by George Miller (distributed by Freeman Entertainment) was voted Best Film in 2015 (with Aferim! coming second).

    ​Aferim! was produced by Romania's Hi Film in coproduction with Bulgaria's Klas Film, endorfilm from the Czech Republic and Romania's Mulberry Development with the participation of Nu Boyana Film Studios, U-Films, Production XMG Media, Abis Studio and Camera. The film was also made in association with EZ Films (France) and HBO Romania, with the support of Eurimages, the Romanian National Film Center (CNC), the Bulgarian National Film Center and the Czech Film Fund.

    The 14th Best Film Fest was organized by Asociația Fabrica de Evenimente with the support of the National Film Centre and in collaboration with the Film Critics’ Association within the Romanian Filmmakers Union and the Romanian distributors.
