OBITUARY: Romanian Actor Radu Beligan, the Oldest Actor on Stage

    BUCHAREST: Romanian actor Radu Beligan, the oldest actor on stage by Guinness World Records, died at 97 in Bucharest on 20 July 2016.

    Born on 14 December 1918, he had a tremendous career especially on stage, but also on screen. He made his debut in the cinema in 1943 in the classical film A Stormy Night / O noapte furtunoasă by Jean Georgescu, and he played in approximately 40 films along the years. Recently he was cast by Peter Călin Netzer in Medal of Honour / Medalia de onoare in 2009 (Sharf Advertising, Pandora Film). 

    He was the director of the Comedy Theatre in Bucharest from 1961 to 1969 and of the National Theatre in Bucharest from 1969 to 1990. He taught at the Theatre and Film Institute from 1950 to 1965. He was an honorary member of the Romanian Academy since 2004.

    He received countless awards and medals in Romania, France and Yugoslavia. In 2014 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Gopo Awards
