BUCHAREST: Obscur, the debut feature of Romanian writer/director Andrei Stefanescu, is currently in the financing and preproduction stage. The film is an independent project set for shooting in November 2016.

The film tells the story of a girl who goes back to her childhood friend who raped her. Because she cannot continue to live with the trauma, she plans to revive and sublimate the feelings of pain, guilt and fear. She wants to kill the person she has become, but the process does not go as planned and instead of death all will end in a beautiful life.

Andrei Stefanescu is producing through Qualiafilm with a budget of 3,000 EUR “out of 15,000 - the ideal amount that would allow us to pay the crew and actors”, Andrei Stefanescu told FNE. All the money comes from private funds including a small amount from crowd funding. “Making an underground film in a no-budget system, without support from any production company, we've chosen the human to human version of fundraising”, said Stefanescu.

Shooting is scheduled to take place in Bucharest and its surroundings. Principal photography will last for 10 days.

The film is set to have several premieres in March 2017 independently in Romania, Germany, Belgium and Ireland with the help of friends, as it is set to be made with an international cast and crew from Belgium and Germany. If no deal is signed with a distributor in six months, the film will be distributed online.
