By Iulia Blaga

BUCHAREST: The National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro) announced the second 2010 grant session on 21 December 2010, with a 31 January deadline. The rushed session was due to the approval of the European Commission (ec.europa.eu) of €80.68 million (RON 347 million) in state aid for the Romanian funding scheme.

The scheme approved by the European Commission will be run by the Romanian authorities until 31 December 2014. It allows producers to spend up to 20% of the film budget within the European Economic Area (EEA), not just in Romania.

Associations have until 14 January 2011 to submits proposals. The 2,325,600 euro (10 million RON) available will be divided among feature films (55%), first features (17%), documentaries (10%), animation films (10%), short fiction films (7%), and development funding for feature, animation and documentary films (1%).

CNC openly announced recently that production companies that didn't respect their previous contracts with the CNC and producers who dropped projects which were awarded at previous sessions will not be eligible to apply for the next grant session.
