SPI to launch HD-TV in Romania

By FNE Staff

Independent film distributor SPI plans to add Romania to its roster of HD-TV stations this fall. The Romanian station will join "n" in Poland, along with "Orange" which broadcasts in the Czech Republic and is currently in the testing stage in Slovakia.

Broadcasting out of Bratislava, under the direction of Ivan Hronec, SPI has over 100 titles available, with another 100 titles being prepared to air, making it the largest HD-TV film provider in its territories.

SPI operates in five territories: Turkey, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Romania. SPI climbed to third place in the Czech theatrical film market. In Romania, SPI recently teamed up with distributor RO Image. The new Romanian TV venture will include one standard channel, along with the HD-TV channel. SPI has also been active in film production and now has 20 of its own titles on its distribution list. The company's recent acquisitions include Che and Fame, a Cannes purchase.
