FNE at TIFF 2013: Miss Christina

CLUJ-NAPOCA: Alexandru Maftei’s Miss Christina, adapted from Mircea Eliade’s 1936 clasic fantasy novel, will be screened in Romanian Days at Transylvania International Film Festival 6 - 8 June 2013.

Inspired by Romanian folklore, the story about the attraction between a young man and the spirit of a dead young woman killed during the 1907 peasants rebellion intertwines local myths of poltergeists with the gothic, as reality and fantasy share the same scene.

Maftei co-wrote the script with Raluca Durbacă. Shooting took 31 days between August 2011 and October 2012.

The film is produced by Gabi Antal for Abis Studio and Costin Ranteş for Mitra Film, with the support of the National Centre for Cinema, BV McCann Erickson, Omnicom, Initiative Media, Mediaedge:Cia, Ogilvy, Mindshare Media, Romanian Public Television, and HBO Romania. Ranteş was executive producer, Mihai Orăşanu coproducer and Iuliana Tarnovețchi delegate producer. The budget was nearly 1.2 m EUR, Antal told FNE.

“The premiere is likely to be in autumn 2013,” Maftei told FNE.
