BUCHAREST: After the highly acclaimed The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceauşescu/Autobiografia lui Nicolae Ceauşescu which concluded a trilogy on communism (comprising also Videograms of a Revolution /Videogramme einer Revolution and Out of the Present), Romanian documentary director Andrei Ujică plans to make a trilogy on the popular culture, The Beatles project (working title). The first part will be a feature length documentary of the New Nonfiction Cinema genre, as the director describes it. The film is produced by Mandragora Movies in Bucharest, Mandragora International Paris and, possibly, Mandragora International New York (sites under construction), producer Bobby Păunescu told FNE. The budget could be as high as 3 million euro, largely due to the cost of buying rights for the music hits. The film received 185,888 euro (808,616 RON) from the National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro) on 16 November 2011 Păunescu says that he plans to approach French funds, as well as American funds, if possible. The preproduction is anticipated to last a long time, since Ujică usually conducts thorough research for his films. For this project, he will travel to New York in January, in order to gather a team of specialists. The premiere is loosely set for 2014.
