Berlinale Silver Bear winner If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle begins it first theatrical release in Romania on March 26, with sales to foreign territories lining up. Sales agent Celluloid Dreams (www.celluloid-dreams.com) has sold the film to Belgium, Luxemburg and Holland, where it will be distributed by Wild Bunch Benelux (www.wildbunch.nl), to Israel (distributor United King Film Distribution), and to Spain (distributor Vertigo Films). The debut film from Florin Şerban also won the Alfred Bauer Prize in Berlin. The director and producers Daniel and Cătălin Mitulescu from Strada Film (www.stradafilm.ro) intended a theatrical premiere in Romanian to stress the importance of local audiences. The local distributor is Metropolis Film. The producer Daniel Mitulescu told FNE that interest from other territories has led to negotiations with Great Britain, Taiwan, Switzerland, Russia, Independent States Community (ISC), Latin America, Italy, Greece, Germany, France, Eastern Europe and others. The Romanian-Swedish co-production between Strada Film, Film i Väst (www.filmivast.se) and The Chimney Pot (www.thechimneypot.com) was supported by the Romanian National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro), the Swedish Film Institute (www.sfi.se) and Post Republic Berlin (www.post-republic.com), and has been pre-sold to the Romanian Television (www.tvr.ro). The project won The Magic Box Service Award at CineLink, during the 2008 Sarajevo IFF (www.sff.ba), and the CineLink Work in Progress Award at Sarajevo IFF in August 2009. The project also received the Hubert Bals Fund Award for Development at the Rotterdam International Film Festival.
