Serbian Films Dominate Box Office

    BELGRADE: In its second week in release Miloš Avramović’s feature South Wind / Južni vetar held on to the number one spot at the Serbian box office, taking in 964,000 USD since its 25 October 2018 opening. A second Serbian film, Slodier’s Lullaby / Zaspanka za vojnike directed by Predrag Antonijevic, debuted in the number three spot, taking in 69,300 USD.

    South Wind, a contemporary crime story produced by Režim, Art Vista and Arhangel Studios on a budget of 360,000 EUR, was supported by Film Center Serbia and is distributed by Art Vista. The film is scheduled for release in the USA on 15 November. The film’s gross rose 3% in week two, taking in twice as much per screen as its closest competitor, and shown on at least 50% more screens than any other film now in release. It broke Serbian records on its opening and was on target to surpass the 1 m EUR mark within a day or two. It is already the top grossing film of the year in Serbia and has outperformed any film since 2014. 

    Soldier’s Lullaby is a 1.9 m EUR WWI historical drama based on a renowned Serbian novel produced by Film Danas, Komuna, Dandelion production, Contrast Studios, Concept Studio, Direct Media and Avala Film, with the support of Film Center Serbia. The film marks the director’s return to feature film work in Serbia after 27 years. The film is already in the 37th place for the year, after just one week in release.
