KOSICE: Eleven full-length films and four short films will screen in the packed Slovak Season section of the 26th Art Film Fest, which runs 15 – 23 June in the Eastern Slovak city of Kosice.

Seven of the films are features and four are full-length documentaries. Most of the films are coproductions, but both young and mature generations of Slovak filmmakers are solidly represented. The section includes three episodes of the short documentary cycle Constructing Slovakia directed by Bibiana Beňová and produced by Peter Kerekes and coproduced by Slovak public broadcaster RTVS.

The lineup includes the Slovak box office hit The Line by actor-turned-director Peter Bebjak, a Slovak/Ukranian coproduction (Wandal Produktion) and Martin Sulik’s Slovak/Czech/Austrian film The Interpreter (Titanic s.r.o., InFilm Praha, coop99 Filmproduktion), which features two high-powered stars: Jiri Menzel and Peter Simonischek.

Tereza Nvotova, a rising star in Slovakia, is represented with her documentary film Meciar (PubRes, HBO EuropeNegativ) and her father, director Juraj Nvota, also makes the cut with the documentary Elsewhere (Alef Film and Media, Ateliery Bonton Zlin, UN Film, Filmpark production), co-directed by Marian Urban. The section also includes the latest film by another Slovak director making an international name for himself, the coming-of-age film Nina (Punkchart Films) by Juraj Lehotsky.
