Slovak films head to Berlin

By Jana Kadlecova
Six Slovak films are representing Slovak film production at the European Film Market in Berlin, including three premieres.

Slovak Soul at Peace, Tobruk, My Husband´s Women, Broken Promise, The Great Thaw, and Blind Loves will be offered by Slovakia's film promotion body, the fourth year that Slovakia has a presentation in Berlin. My Husband´s Women, Broken Promise, and The Great Thaw have yet to open in Slovak cinemas.

More unusual is the route taken by Juraj Lehotsky's Blind Loves. In spite of its already impressive festival credentials, it was presented in the section Bright Future section at the Rotterdam film festival. Slovakia has not been visible at the IFF Rotterdam since 2005, when Katarina Sulajova's Two Syllables Behind screened in the Time and Tide section. In addition, Blind Loves has been nominated for the Cinema for Peace Award for Most Valuable Documentary of the Year, that will be announced on Februar 9th at the Berlinale.
