Increased funding for Slovak films

Increased promotional efforts and a rise in public funding opportunities have spurred the recent success of Slovak films, according to Peter Dubecky.

Dubecky, general director of the Slovak Film Institute, credited a multi-national marketing campaign with the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Poland, and Hungary for increased presence of Slovak films at international festivals.

Speaking with The Slovak Spectator, Dubecky said that funding for films is due to increase in 2010 if a new Audiovisual Fund is enacted. He estimated that up to SKK200 million (6.6 million Euros) needs to be invested in Slovak films annually to keep current levels of production. However a new fund could mean as much as 13 million Euros for film support.
