BEST OF LET’S CEE: Slovenian Film Days 2015 in Graz

The international LET’S CEE Film Festival presents a selection of the best contemporary feature films, documentaries and short films from Central and Eastern Europe including the Caucasus region and Turkey once a year in Vienna. In the course of the past three editions, LET’S CEE showed overall 187 films within 248 screenings, brought 191 international film guests to Vienna and reached a total audience of 28.000 people, almost half of which alone in the past year.

Although the festival takes place only once a year (this year during October 1-11 in Vienna), the association behind the festival of the same name is engaging in activities throughout the complete calendar year by now. In 2015 LET’S CEE will also be present in the federal states for the first time. In collaboration with the cinema chain Cineplexx International, which has been serving as presenting partner and supporting the festival with great commitment since the beginning, selected LET’S CEE films will be screened as a BEST OF not only in Vienna but in other Austrian cities as well.

In this way the second edition of the Slovenian Film Days, initiated by the Slovenian Culture Information Centre in Austria SKICA, will be presented in Graz this year after the successful premiere in Vienna last year. According to the title BEST OF LET’S CEE, the Geidorf Kunstkino will be screening the following six outstanding films from Slovenia from May 9-10, 2015: THE TREE bySonja Prosenc, MOTHER EUROPE by Petra Seliškar, THE WOODS ARE STILL GREEN by Marko Naberšnik, GOOD TO GO by Matevž Luzar as well as CALLGIRL and ULAY by Damjan Kozole.

The thematic scope is broad and ranges from films dealing with little moments of happiness and the everyday challenges and struggles to films concentrating on socially or politically relevant questions. Whether a clever thriller, an emotionally intense drama, a sweeping tragicomedy or a thought-provoking antiwar film, one thing is certain: A closer look at the diverse offering of Slovenian cinema is worthwhile in any case.
