Discover the Documentary Industry: The Doc Corner announces its program

The Marché du Film presents the 4th edition of the Doc Corner, a dedicated space within the market for documentary film professionals. The Doc Corner offers a varied program of documentary-related events.

"It is the place to be in Cannes for documentaries. It is a specialized venue, housing everyone from festivals to sales agents that operate in the world of documentaries, also including producers and filmmakers. The response has been extremely positive. This year we have planned Doc_Meets and Doc_Talks with some of the industry’s most active players," said Julie Bergeron, Head of Industry Programs for the Marché du Film.

It is also home to 9 exhibitors including, EDN - EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY NETWORK, the European training program EURODOC and the global initiative CONNECT4CLIMATE, along with sales agents such as CINEPHIL, RISE AND SHINE, CAT & Docs and ANTIPODE, and festivals including CPH:DOX and IDFA.

The Doc Corner hosts a variety of events, including the Doc_Meets & Doc_Drinks, the brand new Doc_Talks, as well as the traditional Consulting Sessions.

The Doc_Meets is a series of three meet-and-greets in which participants will have an opportunity to meet with sales agents and festivals, on three separate occasions, May 15, 17 and 19, from 4 to 5 pm. Each Doc_Meet will be immediately followed by Doc_Drinks lasting until 6:30 pm, to end the day on a social and networking note. In addition to the above mentioned exhibitors, the Doc_Meets will offer connecting opportunities with companies, festivals and organizations such as: AUTLOOK FILMSALES, EDN, FIDADOC, VISIONS DU REEL, TIFF, HOT DOCS, FIDMARSEILLE, DOCLISBOA, TORINO FILM FESTIVAL, FESTIVAL DEI POPOLI, THE FILM SALES COMPANY, DOC ALLIANCE FILMS, CINEMA DU REEL, CINEMAMBIENTE, AGAINST GRAVITY, RIDM and DOGWOOF.

Meanwhile, for the Doc_Talks series, a line-up of special guests will discuss with Wendy Mitchell different doc-related issues. On Saturday, May 16 at the Doc Corner, Wendy Mitchell will chat with Cara Mertes (Director of JustFilms – FORD FOUNDATION) and Isabel Arrate Fernandez (Manager of IDFA Bertha Fund). Then, on Monday, May 18, she’ll be discussing with Thom Powers (Documentary Programmer for TIFF as well as DOC NYC & STRANGER THAN FICTION Artistic Director) and Dennis Lim (Director of Programming at the FILM SOCIETY OF LINCOLN CENTER).

The Consulting Sessions will take place on May 15, 17 and 19, from 11:30am to 1pm, when experts will help professionals hop on the fast-track to boost their projects. Individual meetings are booked on site with the Doc Corner team the day before, and will last for 30 minutes. The confirmed experts so far for this year include, Cecilie Bolvinkel and Ove Rishoj Jensen from EDN, Adriek Van Nieuwenhuyzen, Isabel Arrate Fernandez and Paul Niño Zambrano from IDFA, and Nicole Guillemet, Festival Consultant and Producer at Off Center Films. Also, the digital video library at the Doc Corner contains 250 feature documentary titles, including two curated selections composed by CPH:DOX and IDFA, as well as the Cannes line-ups of 5 prominent specialized sales agents.

In addition to this comprehensive program, the Doc Corner organizes once again the traditional Doc Corner Brunch – irrefutably THE unmissable gathering of the documentary film professionals attending the Marché du Film in Cannes. The Doc Corner Brunch is a pure celebration of documentary cinema, bringing together all the leading documentary decision makers present at the Marché du Film, as well as the representatives of all the feature documentaries screened across the different Cannes selections.

Among this year’s Guests of Honor will figure directors Asif Kapadia (Amy, Official Selection) and Marcia Tambutti Allende (Allende mi abuelo Allende, Quinzaine des Réalisateurs), as well as a number of prestigious documentary makers whose films will be screened in the mark of Cannes Classics or as part of the sidebar Acid selection. Other eminent Guests of Honor will include JustFilm Director Cara Mertes (Ford Foundation), CPH:DOX Director Tine Fischer as well as IDFA Director Ally Derks. CPH:DOX and IDFA are both official supporters of the Doc Corner Brunch, along with Connect4Climate, a global initiative conceived to take on climate change, notably through films. Connect4Climate will be hosting a special presentation to launch this 8th edition of the Brunch, the Festival’s culminating event for the documentary industry’s most active players.
