„Despite the fact that the cinemas were closed during the first half of the year, we can say that the year of 2021 was the year of film premieres. The academics are about to judge a remarkable amount of 32 feature actors‘ films. The pre-selection committee consisting of the members of CFTA has chosen 16 out of 33 documentary features produced this year and the academics will vote about those in the first round,“ explains the managing director of the CFTA Tereza Rychnovská. The academics will also vote about 16 television works of art and this category is now for the second year open to the works of art distributed via the Internet. The statuette of the Czech Lion can be awarded to 7 animated films or 13 short films. The Czech Lion annual awards will be presented in 21 statutory categories. Every year the 15-member presidium of the CFTA also acknowledges unique contribution to Czech film and can also present an award for an exceptional feat in the area of audio-visual arts.
The presentation of the Czech Lion Awards can take place thanks to the generous support of our stable partners. Our general partner has been for a long time the mineral water Magnesia from the company Karlsbad Mineral Water from the group Mattoni 1873. Our main partner is innogy, who is an important supporter of the domestic cinematography. The
main media partner is the Czech Television. The glassworks Rückl, which produces the statuettes of Czech Lions, also belongs to the family of our partners.

Czech Lion
The Czech Lion is a prestigious film award that has been presented since 1993. The films are evaluated based on the voting of the members of the Czech Film and Television Academy. The ceremonial gala evening where the results will be announced will take place in Prague in Rudolfinum on Saturday 5th March 2022 and it will be broadcast live by Czech Television on CT1 channel at 20.10.
About the Czech Film and Television Academy:
The Czech Film and Television Academy was founded in 1995 and in 2013 it was transformed into a registered association. Its main aim is to support and promote Czech cinematographic art in the Czech Republic as well as abroad and create conditions for the development of Czech film. The academy presents the most prestigious Czech film award – the Czech Lion and nominates the Czech candidate for the awards of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. At the moment the CFTA consists of 354 members.
