Director Jan Hrebejk announced he has started shooting his newest film, Kawasaki´s Roses (or Roses for Kawasaki).
The movie, based on the original screenplay by Hrebejk´s fellow screenwriter Petr Jarchovský which won the prestigous Sazka Award earlier this year, should be released in spring 2010. One part of the story from contemporary Prague was already shot in Göteborg, Sweden, a city that inspired screenwriter Jarchovský to write the story. "Its a beautiful, photogenic city with such a huge genius loci in it, combination of its history and open sea horizon is icredible for me," Jarchovský said. The film crew spent 10 days in Sweden. The rest of the movie will be shot in the Czech Republic this summer. Hrebejk´s newest film will be slightly different from his previous movies (usually comedies such as Shameless and Teddy Bear). "It's a family drama about a serious controversy between an elderly father and his son-in-law; a story of individual memory, guilt and punishment, about the conscience of everyone of us," HÅ™ebejk said. Slovak actor Ladislav Chudík, who celebrated his 85th birthday in May, plays the main character. Martin Huba, Lenka Vlasáková and Daniela KoláÅ™ová are also cast in Kawasaki´s Roses. Rudolf Biermann and Tomáš Hoffman are producing Kawasaki with their companies Infilm and Infinity and noted musician Aleš BÅ™ezina is writing the music for that film. Distributor Bontonfilm (www.bontonfilm.cz) will release the movie in the Czech Republic.
