Polish director Leszek Dawid has just finished shooting his debut feature Ki, a drama about the problems of a young single mother.

The title character Ki, pushing at the restrictions and responsibilities of single motherhood tries to live a colorful, fast and intense life. Her relationships with men are hard and unpromising, but she matures enough to love and be responsible both for herself and her son. 

Ki is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl). Dawid is a graduate of the National Film School in Łódź. An awarded author of documentary and short feature films, he often worked as the second director for film and television productions. He received a grant from the Script Fund of the Andrzej Munk Studio (www.studiomunka.pl) in 2004 as well a special grant and membership from the Junge Akademie der Kunste in Berlin. In 2006 his project for a feature film Miasto (City) received the Nipkow Grant in Berlin. 

Since beginning production, Ki has been generating special interest among new Polish productions and has been taken under artistic supervision by Agnieszka Holland. The lead role is played by Roma Gąsiorowska, recently praised for her appearances in Zero and Snow White And Russian Red.  

The shoot began January 27 and wrapped March 4, 2010, in Warsaw. The producer is Skorpion Arte represented by Krzysztof Grędziński, Małgorzata Jurczak and Paweł Rakowski. The total budget is not finalized. The Polish Film Institute co-financed this project with 1.5 million PLN. Skorpion Arte told FNE that postproduction stage will last till August 2010. The premiere date is undecided, and the film does not yet have a Polish distrubutor.
