BRATISLAVA: Director Daniel Dangl's new doc 38 about the Slovak ice-hockey legend Pavol Demitra, has topped the Slovak box office reaching record numbers of spectators. With nearly 50,000 admissions in its opening weekend, its total admissions have now reached over 83,000.
GDYNIA: The top prize of the 39. Gdynia Film Festival went to Gods directed by Łukasz Palkowski, a biopic about professor Zbigniew Religa, who performed the first successful heart transplant in Poland in the ‘80s.
VAMA: Just the Two of Us, directed by Nina Blazin (Slovenia), shot by Erno-Aron Palfi-Horvath (Hungary, Romania) and edited by Raluca Petre (Romania) is the winner of the 9th edition of the Aristoteles Documentary Workshop. The film is a love story between two old people who have spent a lifetime together.
BATUMI: The 9th Batumi International Art-house Film Festival (BIAFF) held in Batumi 14-21 September 2014 gave its Grand Prix to Lenny Abrahamson for his comedy Frank (UK/Ireland, 2014) that had it's world premiere in Sundance.
SIBIU: The Astra Film Festival, will take place from 6 - 12 October this year in Sibiu, Romania. A highlight of the festival is the Central and Eastern Europe Documentary Competition, featuring ten films from the region.
BRATISLAVA: Journalist and writer Agenesa Kalinova died at the age of 90 on the morning of 18 September 2014 after a long illness.
BUCHAREST: Romanian films are starting to make major inroads into the domestic theatrical market with eight new features set for release in a crowded autumn schedule. Most of the productions were suppported primarily by the Romanian Film Center. Three are directorial feature debuts.
BUDAPEST: Academy award nominated Robert Dornhelm is to direct historical drama It's Showtime Siberia!, with shooting starting in March 2015. The film is a coproduction betwen Germany, Austria, Hungary, Russia with English as the original language.
WARSAW: In a surprise move the European Commission has moved the management for the Creative Europe MEDIA programme to Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG Connect).
BUCHAREST: Romanian Director/screenwriter Ruxandra Zenide will start shooting her second feature, The Miracle of Tekir/Miracolul din Tekir on 20 October, a Swiss/Romanian coproduction planned for release in spring 2015.
