PRODUCTION: Winton doc sequel in postproduction
08 February 2010 By Jana Kadlecová
Slovak director Matej Minac is in postproduction with Niicky's Family, his sequel to The Power of Good, the 2002 Emmy award winning documentary about Sir Nicholas Winton.

Winton was knigted for saving 669 Czech children from the the Nazis. The film is produced by Czech production company W.I.P. (Matej MináÄŤ) and Slovak production company Trigon production (Patrik Pašš). Currently MináÄŤ and Pašš are editing over 600 hours of film in the Trigon production studio in Bratislava. The next step will be music recording in Poland and the Czech Republic. The scenes capturing the response to the actions of Mr. Winton were filmed all over the world, the film is in English language.

"The stories of the saved children were so fascinating that we wanted to show them," Minac told FNE. Production started in 2006. The Discovery Channel is currently in negotiation with the producers.

The budget of the full-length documentary is just over 1.1 million Euros. The film received financing from J&T finance group (www.jtfg.com), Czech Television (CT, www.ceskatelevize.cz) and Slovak Television (STV, www.stvs.sk). Sponsoring partners include Czech energy company RWE (www.rwe.cz), the Czech Ministry of Defense (www.army.cz), and the Slovak Ministry of Culture.

The director plans to premiere the film at the International Film Festival Karlovy Vary in July 2010 in the documentary section. Minac hopes to follow with a charity premiere in London. "This year we have also planned distribution in the US and in the Czech and Slovak Republics. Televisions have holdback for one year after the theatrical premiere," said Minac.

FNE Ambassador for Poland

"For me its very very useful, I receive and read it every day. It is very useful to know what's going on in the region and it was previously an undiscovered area. FNE is doing a very good job. FNE informs us about not only film but also TV and production. Very often I am using some subjects from FNE in my TV programme"
