Film and TV screenwriter, dramatist, author, actor and lyricist Zdeněk Svěrák will receive the Festival President’s Award, which goes to the most outstanding figures of Czech cinematography, at the 49th annual Karlovy Vary IFF.

Nobel Prize winner and former Polish president LECH WALESA will be at the 49th Karlovy Vary IFF to introduce the world premiere of the director’s cut of Walesa: Man of Hope by legendary director Andrzej Wajda, created especially for the premiere screening at the Karlovy Vary festival.

PRAGUE: The Karlovy Vary IFF announced its first major guest for the 49th edition of the festival, 4-12 July 2014: Nobel Prize winner and former Polish president Lech Walesa who will introduce the world premiere of the director’s cut of Walesa: Man of Hope (Akson Studio) by Andrzej Wajda.

BRATISLAVA: Mira Fornay’s My Dog Killer took home the top prize for Best Film as well as scooping Best Director and Best Screen Play at the Sun in the Net awards which took place on Saturday 26 April at the old National Theatre in Bratislava.

In its 27TH edition, Finále Plzeň (April 27 – May 3, 2014, Pilsen, Czech Republic), traditional festival of Czech films, opens its gates also to Slovak films.Slovak films entered the competition for the main award – the Golden Kingfisher, in all three competition sections , as well as in the new competition of Czech and Slovak TV formats.

Slovak films will finish April with a significant festival presence - they will be available at the 21st Hot Docs in Toronto, 11th Crossing Europe in Linz and 6th PriFilmFest in Prishtina.
