BRATISLAVA: The Slovak/Czech/ Macedonian drama The Ballad of Piargy by Ivo Trajkov leads the 12th Sun in a Net awards nominations with 16 nods, followed by Slovak/Czech The Nightsiren / Svetlonoc by Tereza Nvotová with nine nominations. The awards will be announced on 15 April 2023.

BRATISLAVA: FNE spoke with Slovak producer Peter Badač, the new director of the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, about the first steps he intends to take and his priorities for the next five-year period in the office.

BRATISLAVA: Total admissions in Slovak cinemas increased by 112.73% in 2022 and admissions to domestic films increased from 201,629 in 2021 to 552,409 in 2022, according to the Union of the Slovak Distributors.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak producer Peter Badač was elected by the board of the Slovak Audiovisual Fund as the new director of the Slovak Audiovisual Fund after the public hearing of four candidates on 18 January 2023. He will replace Martin Šmatlák, who has led the fund since its inception in 2009.

BRATISLAVA: Polish cinematographer Paweł Edelman, producer Jim Stark and Iranian director Sepideh Farsi will be coming to Bratislava for the 10th Visegrad Film Forum, which will take place at the Film and Television School of the Academy of Performing Arts from 15 to 18 March 2023.

BRATISLAVA: Seven digitally restored classic Slovak films have been made available on the French VOD platform LaCinetek in the Hidden Treasures section. The platform is streaming in France, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Austria.

BRATISLAVA: Zuzana Bieliková, the head of the Slovak Film Commission, and Tanja Ladović Blažević, the head of Filming In Croatia, have been elected to the European Film Commission’s (EUFCN) Board.

BRATISLAVA: Theatre, film and the first Slovak television actress Mária Kráľovičová died on 5 December 2022 at the age of 95.
