BRATISLAVA: The Slovak romantic comedy Till the Summer Comes / V lete ti poviem, ako sa mám is in production. It is the third adaptation of a bestseller by Evita Twardzik Urbaníková directed by Marta Ferencová.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak director Peter Bebjak is shooting the Czech/Slovak thriller Shadowplay / Tieňohra. The film is produced by the Czech companies Hangar Films and Barletta, in coproduction with Slovakia´s D.N.A.

BRATISLAVA: The COVID-19 pandemic led to the closure of cinemas and to a number of measures restricting filming and travel for coproduction teams in 2020. However, Slovak filmmakers managed to complete 28 films, while distributors released 20 domestic titles.

BRATISLAVA: The Audiovisual Fund Council approved an increase of 160,000 EUR in support of the second term of 2020 development grant calls on 19 January 2021. The total amount of support for development grants in 2020 was thus increased to a historically high amount of 653,400 EUR.

BRATISLAVA: The Slovak/Czech/Polish coproduction debut of Czech director Martin Kuba, Three Weeks Under the Sea / Tri týždne pod morom, is currently in preproduction. The production of the film had originally been planned to begin in the winter of 2020 but was rescheduled for 2021.

BRATISLAVA: First Cut Lab Slovakia, the consultancy programme designed for Slovak feature films in the editing phase, will take place online within the period of 15 February to 15 April 2021. The deadline for submitting a project is 1 February 2021. Two projects will be selected. This is the first year of the workshop in Slovakia.

BRATISLAVA: Word / Slovo, a Czech/Slovak/Polish drama set in the late 1960´s, is midway through production, which started in August 2020 and will finish in early 2021. The film is the second feature from Czech director Beata Parkanová.

BRATISLAVA: The 7th edition of Be2Can, a festival of award-winning films from Berlinale, Venice and Cannes, applied the principle of multi-platform distribution through cinema, TV and VOD. After screening in the Czech Republic, the showcase took place from 23 to 29 November 2020 online on the Edisonline platform and also in selected cinemas and cultural spaces across Slovakia.

BRATISLAVA: Nobody Likes Me / Nikto ma nemá rád by Czech directors Tomáš Weinreb and Petr Kazda is in preproduction. The drama is produced by the Slovak company Arytmia Film and the Czech company Black Balance and coproduced by Arizona Productions (France) and Bord Cadre Films (Switzerland).

BRATISLAVA: Slovakia allowed the reopening of cinemas at half-capacity as of 16 November 2020. However, the Cinema Operators Association and the Slovak Union of Film Distributors point out that the reopening of cinemas in this situation may financially damage many private cinema operators.
