ZAGREB: The Croatian box office fell by 83% in the weekend of 13-15 March 2020. Only two Hollywood films, Bloodshot by David S. F. Wilson and My Spy by Peter Segal, managed to attract more than 1,000 spectators nation-wide. As of 19 March 2020 public gatherings are officially banned in Croatia and all cinemas are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

ZAGREB: The Croatian Audiovisual Centre announced new grants for production, minority coproduction, development and international cooperation. A total of 3.3 m EUR / 25 m HRK was allocated for 115 projects and individuals.

ZAGREB: The 16th edition of ZagrebDox International Documentary Film Festival, due to take place from 15 to 22 March 2020, is being postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. The new dates will be announced later.

ZAGREB: The German production company Beta Film has bought a majority stake in Drugi Plan, a Croatian production and service company specialised in high-quality drama series.

ZAGREB: The Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) has planned a series of international events as Croatia holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union from January to June 2020, for the first time since its accession in the EU in 2013. Among them is the Eurimages assembly in Zagreb from 17 to 20 March 2020 and the meeting of the European Film Agencies in Zagreb on 1 April 2020.

ZAGREB: The Zagreb Film Festival has launched a unique online platform as an extension of the Checkers, the festival’s competition of short films made by young Croatian filmmakers. The access to 118 films is free of charge.

ZAGREB: Domestic box office surged from 204,763 EUR in 2018 to 1 m EUR in 2019, with a total of 22 domestic releases in 2019, compared to seven in 2018.

ZAGREB: The largest distributor of film and audiovisual content in the region, Blitz Group has acquired the Croatian distributor 2i film. Last year the two companies combined share of the total Croatian box office was more than 70%, which amounted to 20.9 m EUR / 156.6 m HRK with 4,866,144 admissions in 2019.

ZAGREB: The award-winning Croatian director Hana Jušić is in development with her second feature film God Will Not Help, produced by Kinorama in coproduction with Gustav film from Slovenia and TICO Film Company from Italy.

ZAGREB: Domestic films' box office surged from 204,763 EUR in 2018 to 1 m EUR in 2019, with a total of 22 domestic releases in 2019, compared to only 7 in 2018. Croatian films had 268,817 admissions in 2019, compared to 53,968 in 2018.
