ZAGREB: The Croatian Audiovisual Centre has launched the campaign “Discover Our New Film” at a high-profile industry event held at Kaptol Boutique Cinema in Zagreb on 3 October 2022. From the presented ten new Croatian films, which will be released in the next months, eight are debut features.

ZAGREB: Motivated by a surprising number of Croats who claim to share a family connection with John Malkovich, film director, poet and marketing expert Luka Mavretić decided to make a film about that. His first long documentary Being Related to John Malkovich is currently in production with Anita Juka producing through Croatia’s 4film, and Italy’s Tesla Production and Martichka Bozhilova through Bulgaria’s Agitprop as coproducers.

RIJEKA: The crew of the Serbian TV series South Wind / Južni Vetar, created and directed by Miloš Avramović, produced by Serbia’s Archangel Studios and Režim Beograd, and coproduced by Croatia's Telefilm for the Serbian Radiotelevision, has arrived in the Kvarner region of Croatia.

PULA: Our Man from Jersey directed by Julian Farino and produced by USA’s Closest to the Hole Productions for Netflix is filming in Croatia and Slovenia throughout September 2022, with Croatia’s Pakt Media service producing. The cast of the film includes Halle Berry, J.K. Simmons and Mark Wahlberg, who is also the owner of the production company and one of the main producers of the film.

ZAGREB: The Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) has distributed 345,750 EUR / 2,605,000 HRK to six minority coproductions under the third funding deadline in 2022. Projects by Srđan Vuletić, Olmo Omerzu, Nikola Ležaić, Jovan Arsenić, Sonja Prosenc and Srđan Šarenac received support.

DUBROVNIK: A semi-final round of judging for the 50th International Emmy Awards took place in Dubrovnik on Wednesday 14 September, hosted by the United Media and Nova TV. This is the first year Croatia is hosting an Emmy semi-final, for the category of the best telenovela, and the event attracted dozens of artists and media professionals.

DUBROVNIK: The third season of Vikings: Walhalla, produced by Ireland’s Metropolitan Films International, Canada’s History Channel and USA’s MGM Television for Netflix, will be filmed in Dubrovnik in late September of 2022. Croatia’s Embassy Films is servicing the production.

DUBROVNIK: The ruins of the abandoned Kupari military resort near Dubrovnik, which was heavily destroyed by shelling in the 1990s Croatian Homeland War, will serve as WW2 setting for the filming of Lee Miller biopic, directed by Ellen Kuras and starring Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Josh O'Connor and Marion Cotillard.

ZAGREB: TV crews have returned to Zagreb to continue the shooting of Hotel Portofino, a period drama created by Matt Baker, directed by Adam Wimpenny and starring Natascha McElhone. The producers are making use of Croatia’s 25% cash rebate for the second year in a row. With 60 filming days announced to the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, it is so far the biggest project filmed in Croatia in 2022.

SARAJEVO: Juraj Lerotić’s debut feature Safe Place / Sigurno mjesto will have its regional premiere in the main competition of the Sarajevo Film Festival on 18 August 2022. The film won three prizes at the Locarno Film Festival: a Leopard for best emerging director and best actor (Goran Marković), as well as the Swatch First Feature Award.
