BUCHAREST: At least eight high profile Romanian films are scheduled to open domestically in the next three months, with hopes of improving on the lukewarm reception by local audiences. The diverse field includes critically acclaimed award winners.

BUCHAREST: The newly installed Council of Administration of Romania’s public broadcaster TVR (www.tvr.ro) will cut nearly 30 percent of its staff, 980 out of its 3,340 employers, in an attempt to recoup its 133m EUR debt.

BUCHAREST: Belgian director Benny Vandendriessche is in preparation with his debut feature, Drift, a low-budget film planned to shoot entirely in Romania 10 - 25 September 2012 and for three weeks in January 2013. Romanian company 4Proof Film (www.4prooffilm.ro) is providing services.

BUCHAREST: Participants at the second edition of the Golden Carpathian (www.goldencarpathian.com) film market have scored a number of sales during the event which was held in Bucharest from 23 to 26 August 2012.

BUCHAREST: Polish director Katarzyna Priwieziencew’s Hel has won the top prize for best pitch at the Golden Carpathian film market held in Bucharest.  Hel is an a feature film produced by Amondo Films (www.amondofilms.com) and is currently in postproduction.

BUDAPEST: Ferenc Moldovanyi (Another Planet) is working on a creative documentary about the veteran American film critic Ron Holloway who died in 2009 at age of 76.

BUCHAREST: Diana Munteanu (23) is shooting her first long documentary by the Danube Delta. Sulina:Trapped in Paradise (working title) is a Romanian-Polish coproduction set to be finished next year.

BUCHAREST: Dan Piţa (Stone Wedding) is in early preproduction with a cinematic adaptation of Romanian writer Panait Istrati’s 1923 novella Chira Chiralina.

BUCHAREST: Austrian actor Christoph Waltz is set to star in The Zero Theorem directed by Terry Gilliam, with shooting planned to start at MediaPro Studios (www.mediaprostudios.com) in October 2012.
