FESTIVALS: 25th Febiofest Czech Republic Ready to Kick Off

    PRAGUE: Ten debut and sophomore films are competing in the New Europe competition of the 25th Prague International Film Festival,, set to start on 15 March 2018.

    A jury of 33 film fans, headed by singer Marta Kubišová, will select the winner of the festival’s Grand Prix for a film in the New Europe section.

    More than 170 films will screen in the 15 sections of the festival. Sally Potter’s The Party is the opening film and the US movie Battle of the Sexes, directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, will close the festival.

    Catherine Deneuve will receive the Kristián lifetime achievement award at the closing ceremony on 22 March 2018. Special guests include Leo Carax and Arnaud Desplechin.

    The Amnesty International Febiofest Award will be accompanied by a petition for the release of Tibetan teacher Tashi Wangchuk, who is facing 15 years in prison for advocating for the teaching of Tibetan in Tibetan schools.
