Czech director Jan Svěrák, who received Oscar for Kolya in 1996, has started filming his new movie Kuky Returns (Kuky se vrací).

Svěrák's 2007 smash hit Empties from 2007, drew 1.2 million admissions, making it one of the most successful movies in Czech history.

His newest movie about a dog called Cipísek and a toy called Kuky will combine feature acting and a puppet animation. Noted young Velvet generation Czech director Alice Nellis wrote the screenplay based on several true stories from flood disaster in Bohemia in 2002.

Svěrák declined to comment on the movie´s pre-production or the budget, but it is clear that his son, 9-years-old Ondřej Svěrák, will play the main character of the Boy, and Oldřich Kaiser and Kristýna Nováková are cast as the Parents.

Produced by Jan Svěrák´s production company Biograf Jan Svěrák s.r.o. (www.sverak.cz), Kuky Returns is set for release in May 2010, according to the CTK Czech News Agency.
