Budapest preps for Hungarian Film Week

    Walter Carvalho has finished the rough cut on Budapest, co-producer Peter Miskolczi told FNE.

    Budapest is based on the critically-acclaimed novel by Chico Buarque de Hollanda which won the premier literary award in Brazil. Rita Buzzar wrote the screenplay, and shooting started January 15 in Rio de Janeiro, then filming in Hungary for four weeks through March 15.

    The movie stars Brazilian Leonardo Medeiros and Hungarian Gabriella Hamori, along with Andras Balint, Janos Ban and Adam Rajhona. The cinematographer is the director's son, Lula Carvalho.

    Production partners are the Hungarian Eurofilm Studio under producer Peter Miskolczi, Brazil's Nexus Cinema e Video (http://www.nexuscinema.com.br/_english/index.htm), and Portugal's Stopline Films (http://www.stopline.pt). The budget of the co-production is around €2.5 million. Hungary supplied 15% from the direct and indirect support of the Motion Picture Public Foundation of Hungary's (www.mmka.hu).

    The premier of the movie is planned for Hungarian Film Week, with the Brazilian theatrical release is also planned for early 2009.
