Iszka’s Journey vies for Oscar spot

    Csaba Bollok's Iszka's Journey will represent Hungary at the Oscar competition in the foreign language film category.

    The Hungarian Academy Award nomination committee announced its decision September 5. The members of the committee change each year Lorant Stohr film critic and member of this year 's committee told FNE.

    The movies which had theatrical releases between October 1, 2007, and September 30, 2008, in Hungary were potential candidates. Other films under consideration included n this 2007 Cannes official competition selection The Man from London by Bela Tarr and the 2008 Cannes FIPRESCI award winner Delta directed by Kornel Mundruczo.

    The five member committee included Stohr representing the Association of Hungarian Film Artists, Ivan Mark representing the Hungarian Societies of Cinematographers, Andras Monory-Mesz representing the Guild of the Hungarian Motion Picture Directors, Gabor Varadi representing the Association of Hungarian Independent Producers and Reka Temple representing the Association of the Hungarian Producers.

    Iszka's Journey was a critical success, winning the main price at the Hungarian Film Week and at the Brussels' European Film Festival's best actress prize.
