PRODUCTION: International Coproduction TV series 18 - Clash of Futures Wraps Shooting

    WARSAW: TV series 18 - Clash of Futures, an international coproduction involving over 15 broadcasters, wrapped shooting in July 2017. The series follows the fates of extraordinary men, women and children from France, Germany, Italy, UK, Austria, Sweden, Poland and the Soviet Union in the dramatic era of the 1920s and '30s, using their own diary entries, letters and memoirs. This is the first international TV series production for Wajda Studio.

    The 52-minutes eight episodes series is written and directed by showrunner Jan Peter (Germany), while French director Frederic Goupil is co-directing.

    The project is an international coproduction between Germany’s LOOKSfilm, Luxembourg’s IRIS Group and France’s Les Films d’Ici, with Germany’s Fortis Imaginatio and in association with Poland’s Wajda Studio. The project is also made in cooperation with ARTE and SWR, and also with NDR, WDR, RBB, ORF, CT, SVT, TVP, Toute l’histoire, BBC/MG Alba, YLE, NRK, DR, LRT and Radio Canada.

    The budget is 9 m EUR. The project received funding from FilmFund Luxemburg, MDM, MFG, Creative Europe, CNC, la Procirep et l’Angoa, CUS, Région Grand Est, DMPA, SACEM and Sofitvciné & Cofinova.
    According to Zuzanna Król, Head of Production at Wajda Studio, shooting took place in Luxembourg, France, Belgium and Germany, with a total of 53 shooting days spanning between April and July of 2017.

    "This is the first international TV series production for Wajda Studio, which we are hoping to continue in the upcoming season. Apart from engaging in production we are closely cooperating with LOOKSFilm on the series’ promotion campaign and accompanying events. The premiere is planned for 2018, with TVP1 as the Polish broadcaster", Król also said.

    The show has an international cast of European actors, including Polish actresses Michalina Olszańska as famous Polish movie star Pola Negri and Małgorzata Zajączkowska as her mother, Eleonora Chałupiec. The other main actors were not disclosed at this stage. The cast includes 120 actors from 12 countries and over 700 extras.
