RADOM: Polish director Jacek Gwizdała is working on a biopic project The Priest / Klecha, planned as a feature drama and a TVP three-part mini-series, and focusing on Roman Kotlarz, a priest oppressed by the Communist regime.

Roman Kotlarz became a victim of the Communist Special Security in June 1976, when a wave of labourer strikes stirred Poland as a response to the Government's drastic raise of the prices of essential goods. The script is co-written by the director together with Wojciech Pestka, a writer from Radom, Kotlarz’s hometown.

"Two years ago I read a book written by Wojciech Pestka about the events in Radom in June 1976 entitled Tell the Others / Powiedzcie swoim, where I found the inspiration for my film", Jacek Gwizdała told FNE.

Jacek Gwizdała is producing through V-Film with a planned budget of 1.3 m EUR / 6 m PLN, of which 465,000 EUR / 2 m PLN is production support from the Polish Film Institute and 209,000 EUR / 900,000 PLN a grant from the City of Radom.

The film stars Mirosław Baka and the cast includes Piotr Fronczewski, Andrzej Zaborski, Janusz Chabior and Lech Dyblik.

Shooting took place in Częstochowa and Radom. There were several shooting days in 2017 and three weeks until 20 August 2018. The premiere of the feature film is planned for 17 October 2018, the anniversary of Roman Kotlarz's birthday, while the mini-series will have its premiere in 2019.
