Joanna Michalec, head of Phoenix Productions, the US-based distribution company specialising in releasing Polish films abroad, told FNE. The film opened in the UK and Ireland on 11 October 2018.
Clergy has sparked worldwide interest from Polish-speaking and international audiences, with tickets selling out even before the movie hit the cinemas abroad. Phoenix Productions told FNE that Clergy opened in the USA, Canada and Holland on 11 October 2018 and will be released in Norway, Germany and Austria on 19 October,
The film opened in Polish cinemas on 28 September 2018 distributed by Kino Świat and has racked up over 3 million admissions to date, becoming the first ever Polish film to reach that number of admissions so quickly. It had 935,000 admissions during the premiere release weekend, the best opening of a Polish film in the last 30 years.
The film was produced by Profil Film Jacek Rzehak in coproduction with Showmax B.V, Moderator Inwestycje, Atlas Sztuki, Tovares, Studio Metrage, Kino Świat, Cracow Festival Office, National Audiovisual Institute, Great Private Equity, and with production financing from the Polish Film Institute.
